When I undertook this pet portrait of our beloved Xena, I knew it was going to be an emotional journey, but I am baffled by how difficult I am finding it. I can only work in short bursts before my mind starts reminiscing on the loving memory of our kitty and I have to stop due to tears and blurry vision. I've tried to remain technical with the execution of the drawing, focusing on accurately rendering the shading and texture of her fur, but I can only sustain it for so long. This is the work I have managed to do so far. It's hard... Really hard! Five years, and yet the painful void she's left in our hearts is still as fresh and sore as ever. |
